Week ending 17th April - IRRI

Large flocks of both Grey Wagtail and Yellow Wagtail passing through this week. Other than that not much to report. Ringing on Saturday produced several Tree Sparrows and Scaly-breasted Munias, but no Snipe at all, though they are still around.

Several Eurasian Tree Sparrows caught on Saturday.

As well as a number of Scaly-breasted Munia

An amazingly green Grasshopper that narrowly avoided the nets

  1. Interesting to see that race of Tree Sp again - longer-billed than our birds and with more black on face & throat.

  2. Really? I've never had the European race in the hand so couldn't comment. These are common as muck here!

  3. I've ringed a few Asian ones, but so long ago... However, we ring lots around here - in fact it's a target bird because it's declining in many parts of the UK, though holding its own in the East Midlands! Any idea if your juvs do a complete post-juv moult like ours?

  4. Haven't had a chance to find out yet, and to be honest it's not a target species, but I can add it to the (growing) list of questions to answer!
